The Art of Layering at Santa Fe Trail Jewelry

September 12, 2015 By Marylee

I love to wear layered necklaces.  It is not for everyone, not for the faint of heart.  I’ll never forget a customer telling me I needed to ‘ditch’ a necklace ( I was wearing three at once ).  I guess I spent too much time hunting for treasures in New Mexico.  The Santa Domingo and Navajo women wear many necklaces together. To me, it was normal.  So my first rule is that there are no rules.  What you love and what the next person loves will ALWAYS be different, so let’s not be the same, let’s choose to be unique!

Here is an example of what I had on yesterday in the store.  The African turquoise with the old ‘eye beads’ is one that I made.  The thunderbird pendant is a ‘new old’ piece from Peyote Bird.  The long strand is a new design from Martin of Golden Fleece.  Love it!  Be creative and be different.
