African Pride – The Trollbeads story of Malawi

July 13, 2018 By Marylee

One of the things I love about my business is the inspiration I receive and the inspiration I share with my artists and customers.  I bask somewhere in the middle of both.  Today I created a bracelet from my Malawi Trollbeads that I will call African Pride after the World Tour bead with that name.

Lise Aagaard and her family traveled to Africa in 2010 in search of a community to set up a glass bead workshop and teach them the skill of creating beads for the company. In a quest for acquiring artists in a self-sustainable project she has brought joy and inspiration to thousands of people around the world. The Malawi project only lasted a few years but the beads that were created have their own distinct flair. The Malawi beads I have collected show bold patterns you might see in a warrior’s shield or the bold patterns in the culture’s textiles and art.
